The edging is one of the point in consideration in determining granite slab thickness. The edging on 3/4″ inch thickness slab can be built up to 1 1/2″ or 2 1/4″. While the edging on 1 1/4″ inch thickness slab is left as it is and if required can be built up to 2 1/2″.

The 3/4″ granite slab is required to be put up on plywood or other backer, whereas the 1 1/4″ granite slabs do not require such support.
